Alan is local and has, for many years, lived in and around Christchurch, Dorset, UK. The area is surrounded by wonderful countryside and this provides a focus for his work. He uses a variety of mediums including Oil, Watercolour and Acrylic and his paintings can be found in collections locally and around the world.
Alongside his passion for painting runs a deep interest in wildlife, particularly in the birds found in the local area. Originally his work reflected this, containing many illustrations and paintings of the wildlife he studied. Over time, the surrounding landscape of the areas he visited became more of a focal point. Christchurch Harbour, Hengistbury Head and the Avon Valley soon began to provide the ideal inspiration for the development of the unique style for which Alan has become more widely known.
Recently, Alan's subject-matter has been extended to include paintings of the New Forest, Poole Harbour and Dorset's Jurassic coastline.
Alan exhibits his work regularly in Christchurch in the Hayloft Gallery in Wick Lane and, during the summer months, his work can be viewed in Bournemouth at the Open Air Pinewalk Exhibition located in the Lower Pleasure Gardens. For information regarding upcoming exhibitions, please see Events.
